Our History

Our company was founded in the Spring of 2007 by Thelma Martinez Colón who during this time had 31 years of collective experience as a logistics consultant in international manufacturing and freight transportation. As Chief Managing Director, Ms. Martinez is the leading managing partner of the firm and is actively involved in the business and works closely with the team to develop effective strategies for our clients. As a result, the GL-TAM Forwarding Group continues to grow every year, with satisfied clients bringing more freight and new clients integrating our services for their supply chain.

Thelma M. Colón

Ms. Martinez started her professional career early in life during her teenage years in 1978 as a secretary at the R.G. Barry Corporation in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México, where back then the company was known as Barry De México, S.A. de C.V. During her 20 years at Barry, Ms. Martinez rose through various positions where eventually becoming the Import/Export manager and was responsible for the process of acquiring raw materials from U.S. suppliers and overseeing the successful exportation of finished products to the U.S. distributors. This pre-NAFTA and post-NAFTAera provided Ms. Martinez a lot of experience in the manufacturing(Maquiladoras) business and the advantages U.S. companies had when conducting manufacturing operations in México across border town communities. Ms. Martinez left Barry in 1998 to work as a logistics consultant in various freight forwarding companies within the Port of Laredo and Port of Houston, Texas, U.S.A. where she gained 9 years of experience in supply chain management servicing manufacturing companies in the U.S. and México.

From this collective experience, Ms. Martinez realized the much-needed tailored service manufacturing companies require to successfully grow and thus co-founded the GL-TAM Forwarding Group in 2007. Since co-founding the GL-TAM Forwarding Group, Ms. Martinez has been responsible for managing the firm’s participation as a viable supply chain platform for multiple small and large manufacturing companies. In the past year alone, the firm participated in over 1,000 shipments totaling over $45.3million in valued goods. As founding partner and Deputy Managing Director, she has led the firm in 12 years of consecutive profits.

Margarito Ortega-Ortega

Mr. Ortega started his professional career early in life as well during his teenage years as aMexican customs specialist for freight forwarding companies in Mexico City. During his25 years within the international trade industry, Mr. Ortega rose to become an account executive representing various logistics companies across México that held key stake interest in shipping commercial goods across multiple ports of entry within México. This experience gave Mr. Ortega a unique and valuable knowledge with Mexican Customs Laws, Regulations, and Mexican Federal Agency compliance processes. Mr. Ortega co-founded the GL-TAM Forwarding Group in 2007 and has been responsible for managing the operations within México. As founding partner and chief account executive, he has led the firm in 12 years of consecutive profits.
